Murders @ Austair Castle--Lauren Carr-Book Review--Giveaway

There's a giveaway scroll to bottom!
A bit of a switch up...Starting with What I Thought...
They just keep getting better!
Which is kind of a strange statement since this is book 5 in the series.
I have really enjoyed meeting Lauren Carr and Mac Faraday and of course Gnarly.
The first introduction I had to read this series was with the most recent title Candidate For Murder #12.  It was 5 stars!
The Murders At Astaire Castle is just as good as all the others that I've read.  In some ways I kind of liked it better.  But maybe that is because I've really come to enjoy these characters.
Lauren Carr has a way of weaving a story and the characters together that keeps the reader interested and wanting to be a part of the story.
Each book does have a lot of characters.  But it is very easy to keep track.
Lauren does have a 'caution' at the beginning of this book letting
the reader know ..."There is some supernatural elements, I would not classify it as paranormal."

The story takes place around Halloween.  This is a murder
mystery and there is quite a long list of people that have lost their lives at The Castle.  The story takes place over a few years.
And gives the reader a 'back story' into David's (Mac's brother) history.
As is the normal for this series although its a murder mystery it is not graphic.  There are twists and turns and I was kept on the edge of my seat.
Of course Gnarly is a huge part of the story.  Everyone loves
Gnarly even though he is a bit of a pest sometimes.  He is the
ever present protector of his people!

I loved this 4th installment in the series!  Another 5 stars!

And now a sneak peek . . .

A little more of what it's about...
Never tell Mac Faraday not to do something.

Spencer's police chief, David O'Callaghan, learns this lesson the hard way when he orders Mac Faraday to stay away from the south end of Spencer's mountaintop - even though he owns the property. It doesn't take long for Mac to find out what lies on the other side of the stone wall and locked gate, on which hangs a sign warning visitors to Keep Out!

Topping the list of the 10 top haunted places in America, Astaire Castle is associated with two suicides, three mysterious disappearances, and four murders since it was built almost a century ago - and Mac Faraday owns it!
In spite of David's warning, Mac can't resist unlocking the gate to see the castle that supposedly hasn't seen a living soul since his late mother had ordered it closed up after the double homicide and disappearance of Damian Wagner, a world-famous master of horror novels.
What starts out as a quick tour of a dusty old castle turns into another Mac Faraday adventure when Astaire Castle becomes the scene of even more murders. Mac is going to need to put all of his investigative talents to work to sort out this case that involves the strangest characters he has run into yet - including a wolf man. No, we're not talking about Gnarly.

And I thought...
Jesus and the Beanstalk was an encouraging read.  A reminder for us that our saviour is into the small things and the big things.  We all face giants.  Some bigger than others.
This book gives you thought provoking stories and a bit of humor and keeps your interest.  Each section includes a fairy tale or story and scripture.
The chapters are short and easy to read.  And is written as a devotional
study with daily reading.   Each section ends with questions for you to dig deeper.
This would be an excellent book for a group study.

I received a complimentary copy of Jesus and the Beanstalk  from LItfuse in exchange
for my honest review.

Marry Wisely, Marry Well-Book Review

About the book (provided by Shepherd Press)
Does marriage matter anymore? If so, is it even possible to have a stable marriage? How do you choose the right one? Is there anything to work on now, even before being in a relationship?
Marry Wisely, Marry Well teaches you how to start building your future marriage house even before you begin a relationship. Learn to make a wise choice of a spouse, and how to start preparing yourself for a future relationship that is truly built on Christ.
Endorsements (provided by Shepherd Press)
…a wonderful distillation of biblical principles … a superbly practical, biblically-based handbook for young people and students who are seeking the wisdom of God’s Word in order to make sure their expectations, their affections, and their hearts are right before God as they contemplate the most important and far-reaching human relationship they will ever enter into.
—John MacArthur, Pastor-Teacher, Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, CA
The choice of whom we marry is incredibly important. This is true for all people, but it is especially true for a Christian. In Marry Wisely, Marry Well, my friend Ernie Baker provides solid biblical counsel that will help singles do what the title suggests. I recommend it highly and encourage people contemplating marriage to purchase it and follow its guidelines as they consider one of the most important decisions they will ever make.
—Dr. Wayne Mack, Director and Professor of Biblical Counseling at Strengthening Ministries Training Institute and Association of Certified Biblical Counselors Academy member
To read additional endorsements visit the The Shepherd Press website.  Click Here.

And I thought...Marry Wisely, Marry Well is an excellent resource for young people.  The excellence of this book is spoken for in the above video.   This is a book filled with Wisdom.  The book begins with the truth that a good and Godly marriage is built on Wisdom.  Wisdom from God and building a firm foundation in and through Christ.
The book which is simple and easy to read is filled with scripture reference and stories.
I think what impressed me the most was the Marriage Project at the end of the book.  The author makes a point of referring the
reader that isn't a 'Follower of Christ' back to chapter 2
Christ The Foundation of Wisdom.
Although this book is powerful and resourceful I would not expect a high school student to be ready for these resources.
This in my opinion is an excellent book for college students.
Although it is easy to read for an adult it is a little wordy for high school students.  And the concept is more mature.
I could see this book as an excellent resource for studies for groups facilitated by youth ministers.
I could see home school students or students that are very ministry driven to be in a place to dive into the resources and wisdom of this book.

For additional information I am providing the following video from the author.

To Have And To Hold-3 Autumn Love Stories

Product Description

To Have and to Hold, Three Autumn Love Stories
Love Takes the Cake, by Betsy St. Amant
Will three wedding consultants find their own happy endings? Charlotte is always the baker, never the bride.

The Perfect Arrangement, by Katie Ganshert
Florist Amelia and Nate are involved in a fender-bender.

Love in the Details, by Becky Wade
Wedding coordinator Holly wonders if she should give her ex-boyfriend a second chance.
And I thought ...A lovely collection.  I enjoyed each story.  The stories take place in September, October, and November.  Truly making this a fun Fall read.  I enjoyed meeting these authors and look forward to reading more of their works.
Each story is different and unique in it's own way.   I took a day read the entire collection.  They are fast and fun to read each feeling like a Hallmark Movie.    This book was published by Zondervan and each story has a faith element but it is extremely subtle not overbearing at all.  Anyone (any age)  that reads  Contemporary Romances would enjoy this collection.
I can easily give this collection 5 Stars.

About the book (provided by IReadTours)...

Author's Bio:

Paulette Bogan admits she was bossy as a child. She is the author and illustrator ofVirgil & Owen, which was chosen as one of Bank Street Best Children's books of the Year 2016, Virgil & Owen Stick Together, which won a Mom's Choice Award Gold Medal for Picture Books, and Lulu The Big Little Chick, which won a Children's Choice Book Award. She lives in New York City with her husband, three daughters, and two dogs. They ALL think she is STILL bossy. But they've never told her to go to her room!

An interview the author...
1.    What genre do you write and why?
I write picture books. Why? It seems to come naturally to me. I am an illustrator first and think visually, so I think that’s a big part of it. Someday I’d like to write a picture book with no words!

 2.   Do you try to teach a message in all of your books?
I never try to teach a lesson. An idea for a story usually comes to me, and I have to write about it. For Bossy Flossy the idea came from a number of places. I was watching a home video of my daughter Sophia when she was about six years old directing a play that starred her two little sisters and the dog. She was very bossy, but also very direct and concise about what she wanted. So when writing Bossy Flossy I tried to keep in mind her innocence, her directness, and her frustration as a child. If I switch into thinking like an adult when I’m writing I becomes too preachy and didactic.

3.  What  is the most frustrating part of creating a picture book?
Having a great beginning and a great ending, but no middle is the most frustrating. The middle keeps the story fresh and appealing. It keeps the story moving forward and reaching a climax before being resolved. It cannot be boring.

4.    Do you have any hobbies?
Crossword puzzles, but only easy ones, because I get frustrated very easily. I also love to read. I can’t go anywhere without a book. I used to surf, but then I broke my leg. Reading is safer.

5.   How many books do you read in a month?
I read about three to five books a month on average. I like to read at night before I go to sleep. Of course if it’s a really good book I have a hard time stopping!  Lately I’ve been in a slump and haven’t read much. I’ve been doing crossword puzzles at night and playing Words with Friends with my sister, Sandra. She always wins.

And what I thought about Bossy Flossy . . .
Charming.  Colorful. Delightful.  At least the moral was.  Flossy is a bit bossy.  She is bossy to her poor animals.  She is bossy to her cat and brother and mother.  And her friends at school.  And then one day she meets someone who bosses her back.  She's met her match and finds a friend.  And learns to be a friend.
I enjoyed reading this sweet little book.  Well it's not little.  It's rather big.  Perfect for little ones.
It's a book for parents to read and discuss with younger children.  Older children can read on their own.
The illustrations are charming.   This is a fun book for everyone!  A great book to give to a child.

Back In The Saddle-Ruth Logan Herne

#1: Back in the Saddle - By: Ruth Logan Herne
The cover got my attention! I totally enjoyed this book!

What it's about . . .

The Prodigal Is Coming Home

Its been a long time since Colt Stafford shrugged off his cowboy legacy for shiny Manhattan loafers and a promising career on Wall Street. But when stock market manipulations leave him financially strapped, the oldest son of legendary rancher Sam Stafford decides to return to the sprawling Double S ranch in Grays Glen, Washington. Hes broke, but not broken, and its time to check in with his ailing father, and get his legs back under him by climbing into the saddle again.

He doesnt expect to come home to a stranger pointing a loaded gun at his chest a tough yet beautiful woman that Sam hired as the house manager. Colt senses theres more to Angelina Morales than meets the eye and hes determined to find out what shes hiding...and why.

Colts return brings new challenges. Younger brother Nick has been Sams right-hand man at the ranch for years and isnt thrilled at having Colt insert himself into Double S affairs. And the ranchs contentious relationship with the citizens of Grays Glen asks all the Stafford men to examine their hearts about what it truly means to be a neighbor. And as Wall Street recovers, will Colt succumb to the call of the financial districts wealth and poweror finally the courage to stay in the saddle for good?

Check it out. Click here to visit the publishers website and download a chapter.

What I thought . . .

I was drawn in from the first few pages. I couldn't put it down. This was a very well written great story of romance family and faith. The story line was great. The author did a wonderful job of weaving together a romance along with a little real life struggles all interwoven into a story full of grace and forgiveness.

I enjoyed the characters. I felt like they were all fully developed.

I look forward to the next installment in the series. I always look forward to reading the stories of a sub-character in a book.

The main characters Colt and Angelina are both well developed. Colt a is strong and dependable. Angelina is

'spit fire'. Her character is cute, strong and opinionated.

Angelina doesn't mind telling everyone what she is thinking and manages to help not only Colt but his father as well come to a closer relationship with God.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was difficult to 'put down' I would recommend it.

My rating is 5 stars . . .
